A study by Prof. Ali
Elkarmi and Prof. Khaled Abu-Elteen
is summarized by the Claremont Climate Report
The study
entitled "Biodegradation of 2,4-dichlorophenol originating from
pharmaceutical industries" published in the African Journal of
Biotechnology was summarized by the famous Claremont Climate Report published
by the Roberts Environmental Center at Claremont McKenna College. The study is
about extracting and identifying Pseudomonas alcaligenes
from the wastewater of pharmaceutical industries and examining its efficiency
in biodegrading 2,4-dichlorophenol. The bacterial
species was genetically modified using ultraviolet radiation and then tested
again for its new biodegradation efficiency. The optimal condition for
biodegradation using this bacterial species was also studied.
